• Bud Sweetman poses for a portrait with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star he recieved for serving in World War II. Sweetman, who will have dontaed 300 pints of blood began donating when he was discharged from the Army after spending 13 and a half months in the hospital for an injury he sustained in Vire, France in 1944. (Jason A. Frizzelle) This collection of images illustrates a variety of portraits from headshots to location portraits. This collection of images represents more than a decade of work at newspapers and wire services throughout North Carolina. I now practice my style of story-telling photography for weddings community events as well as portrait sessions ranging from brides to local authors. After graduating from Randolph Community College I spent more than a decade documenting communities throughout Eastern North Carolina with a camera. My passion for capturing story-telling images has allowed me to witness everything from High School Football to Hurricanes and even Presidential visits.

My award-winnng photography has been published internationally, appearing in publications such as The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The Guardian of London, and Time Magazine.

As a child I loved the writing of Ray Bradbury, who was often noted for “tuning the ordinary into the extraordinary.” That’s the approach I take to every assignment, finding the priceless moments in everyday life. Weather I’m capturing a high school touchdown celebration or a bride’s final minutes before saying “I do,” I’m preserving an extraordinary memory.

Whether I'm documenting a diverse community or capturing a couple's first dance, I'm photographing something extraordinary!

 • MOMENTS

A single janitor sweeps the echoing lobby of the Pitt County Courthouse as two security guards keep watch over typically vacant District Courtrooms. On this May evening the courtrooms remain occupied after hours by members of the J.H. Rose High School Mock Trial team as they prepare for a national trial competition. Junior Nancy York listens intently as the team's Attorney Advisor Robert Waddell coaches during a practice in District Courtroom number two.
Since April York has spent between six and nine hours weekly preparing for the competition and admits the preparation is hard work, "it takes a lot out of you," she says. The level of competition serves as an incentive to work harder according to York, simply stating, "we don't want to get embarrassed."
• With a background in community journalism, I always strive to tell stories with my photography. Photographing children is no different. When I photograph toddlers I like to work unobtrusively with little to no direction. Relying on my skills as a story-teller I can document children as they play and capture their personality and the moments as they happen. • Erik Hoffacker poses for a portrait at his home in Wilmington, N.C. Hoffacker is running his 4th Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Half Marathon on March 16th. As a local REALTOR with three children, all of whom play travel athletics, Hoffacker considers practices as “appointments” on his calendar. Some practices start as early as 5:45 A.M. and Hoffacker feels like he’s seen a positive result in both work and training, “the more I’ve scheduled, the more I’ve been successful in both.” Setting a good example for his children is also a motivating factor, “I wanna show them health and fitness are important,” he says. As his children have grown they’ve become active in recreation league sports and have even run some 5K races with him. (Jason A. Frizzelle)

(Jason A. Frizzelle)
