Myles Standish Burial Ground in Duxbury, Massachusetts is the oldest known cemetery in America; circa 1638. Since then the United States has amassed more than 144,000 cemeteries nationwide. The country is home to 5 of the 10 largest cemeteries in the world. New Hanover County in North Carolina, the second smallest county in the state is known for beautiful beaches and a bustling real estate market. This Southeastern North Carolina tourist destination is also home to more than 100 abandoned grave sites. An abandoned cemetery is defined as an cemetery without an owner of record on the land deed. While these plots of land are protected by North Carolina General Statutes, they are not maintained by county or city agencies. The responsibility of maintenance falls on family members or private citizens that “adopt” these abandoned grave sites.

Over the last two decades I've made hundreds of professional portraits both on location and in the studio. I've documented accomplishments, helped business owners introduce themselves to potential customers, and captured the personalities of professional authors.

This ongoing photography project on surfing in the Cape Fear Region is available in print sizes up to 16x20 inches.

After graduating from Randolph Community College I spent more than a decade documenting communities throughout Eastern North Carolina with a camera. My passion for capturing story-telling images has allowed me to witness everything from High School Football to Hurricanes and even Presidential visits. My award-winnng photography has been published internationally, appearing in publications such as The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The Guardian of London, and Time Magazine. As a child I loved the writing of Ray Bradbury, who was often noted for “turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.” That’s the approach I take to every assignment, finding the priceless moments in everyday life. Weather I’m capturing a high school touchdown celebration or a bride’s final minutes before saying “I do,” I’m preserving an extraordinary memory. Whether I'm documenting a diverse community or capturing a couple's first dance, I'm photographing something extraordinary!

This collection of images illustrates the story-telling style of photography I use to preserve the memories of couple's wedding day. I've documented the communities of North Carolina for more than a decade. My goal is to create a visual record of your wedding without staging photos.

On December 27, 2012 two year old Holly Larue Frizzelle was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. What began as a stomach ache and visit to her regular pediatrician led to a hospital admission, transport to the University of North Carolina Children's Hospital, and more than two years of treatment.

Along the coastline of Ft. Fisher State Park in North Carolina you'll find the remnants of a Live Oak and Yaupon forest. According to ncparks.gov, these visibly twisted trees are salt-tolerant, growing to no more than 30 feet and shaped by wind and sea spray.

On January 25, 2014 friends and family of the late Randy Hockabout held a ceremony to remember his life at Optimist Park, where his body was found on January 25, 1986. With a background in community journalism, I always strive to tell stories with my photography. Photographing children is no different. When I photograph toddlers I like to work unobtrusively with little to no direction. Relying on my skills as a story-teller I can document children as they play and capture their personality and the moments as they happen.

This collection of candid images documents a play session at Pennie's Daycare in Wilmington, N.C.

Jenn Horne and Gabe Albanese are raising their daughter Jubilee in a collective house in Greenville N.C. Upon becoming pregnant the couple decided against moving out of the small room they share in the house into one of their own feeling it may "isolate" the child. The house consists of between two and five college age roommates that are active in the community. Roommates tour in bands hold vegetarian dinner nights and strive to build a sense of community in a college town they describe as transient.

The Greenville Roller Girls were the first Roller Derby team in the City of Greenville, N.C. This all female team lasted only about three months from start to finish, later disbanding with a few members forming another team, The Ring City Rollers.

The four blocks of Dickinson Avenue between Reade Circle and Tenth Street in Greenville have become known as a diverse community within a community. Lined with tightly packed buildings and accessible sidewalks the area that lends itself to foot traffic. This once thriving business district has become a stretch of storefronts ranging from sparse to empty. Busy weekend traffic has seemingly disappeared with the exception of occasional foot traffic taking a shortcut to another location. Furniture stores and bakeries have given way to only a few remaining businesses and a hand full of newly relocated businesses. The absence of neon lights and towering billboards has kept many of these stores hidden from passer-bys. Antique stores and a lone comic book store mark an ironic era in Greenville's history next to silently decaying buildings, while a single martial arts business remains a lighthouse of sorts as the only business open after dark. Despite the decline in business many owners, some of whom have occupied stores for more than fifty years, remain doing ?business as usual.? Frank Craft, owner of Williams Shoe Shop echoes best the street's quiet resistance to change simply saying, ?this is home.? All American Martial Arts sits as the lone business open after dark on this four block stretch of Dickinson Avenue.
